Good Hand Hygiene Tips:

Frequent hand washing is one of the best ways to avoid getting sick and spreading germs.

Wash your hands before touching anything that needs to stay clean and after touching anything that may contaminate your hands.

Warm, soapy water is the best option. Remove jewellery. Rub hands together for at least 20 seconds. Cover all surfaces of the hands, rinse and dry well.

Encourage children to wash their hands frequently. After all they are the next generation and they will one day need to teach their children or their friends children about hand hygiene.

If you don’t have access to running water use alcohol based hand sanitiser. Always carry hand sanitiser.

CMYK versus RGB. Is this important to know?

To avoid disappointment in the end result I think you should read this……

What is CMYK?

CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta Yellow, Key (or Black).  The letter ‘K’ is used because it is an abbreviation for the printing term ‘key plate.’ It is also the last letter of the work black and ‘k’ is not present in the other colours.

These are the basic colours used for printing full colour images.

CMYK refers to the four ink plates used in offset printing. The ‘K’ in CMYK stands  for ‘Key’ as the cyan, magenta and yellow printing plates are carefully aligned with the black key plate.

When you blend these colours together they get darker. When you blend cyan, magenta and yellow with 100% black you get a beautiful deep, rich black . But that’s another blog!

When to use CMYK?

Use CMYK for any project that will be printed, not viewed on a screen. If you need to recreate your design with ink the CMYK mode will give you more accurate results.

Helpful Hint: 

PDF’s are ideal for CMYK files. They should get married because they are compatible with most programs!

What is RGB?

RGB stands for Red, Green, Blue. These colours are used for creating images on a computer screen.

When equal amounts of the RGB primary colours are at their highest level, the resulting color is white.

A designer can control aspects of their project by modifying these three colours. Because it’s done digitally, the designer can manipulate the light on the screen to create the colour they want.

When to use RGB?

When the end result of your project is a digital screen, use RGB mode.

As the year draws to a close there is an increase in parties and social gatherings. You’ve worked hard all year and want to let your hair down. You deserve it, right? Follow these Christmas drinking tips to keep you healthy and safe. Make it a time to remember not a time you might regret for the rest of your life!

Safe alcohol consumption

Most importantly don’t put pressure on yourself or others to drink alcohol.

1  Delay the onset of the first drink until later in the day.

2  If you are the host – provide plenty of non alcohol options that taste great as well as low alcohol beer and wine.  Make sure everyone can get home safely.

3  Make plenty of food available

4  Alternate alcoholic drinks with non alcoholic drinks.

5  Hydrate with water. Natures wine. Spice it up with sliced lemon/lime/watermelon. Garnish with mint and ice. 

6  Take turns being the sober adult to make decisions or get help should something go wrong.

7  Don’t top up drinks without asking.  If you see someone getting ‘tiddly’, encourage them to ease
off the alcohol for a bit and offer them water or a non-alcoholic drink instead.

8 Be mindful. It takes about an hour to process one standard drink. That is 100ml of wine, 30mls of spirits or a can of beer. Be informed. Check the labelling.

9  Drinking and driving is not an option.  If you drink and drive you’re a bloody idiot. Stay alive – don’t drink and drive. Crash at your mates not your car!

10 Young minds are like sponges.  Your behaviour could  influence the way your children drink once they reach the legal drinking age.

11 Abstinence for some may be important, especially for those people who know they struggle to stop at one drink.

What about Wassail and the Wassailing tradition?

Firstly, wassail is a spiced hot apple drink drunk from a wassailing bowl.

Two very important ingredients for the Medieval Christmas tradition of Wassailing.

In Medieval times wassailing was an English ritual performed to ensure a good cider apple harvest the following year.

History

The earliest versions were warmed mead with apples dropped into the mix. The drink evolved to become a mulled cider made with sugar and spices, topped with pieces of toast and drunk from a large communal bowl.

Wassailing – a traditional ceremony involving singing and drinking under the apple trees to ensure a plentiful harvest of fruit. Toast soaked in wassail was offered as a gift to the tree spirits.

Wassail Poem:

Wassail, wassail all over the town,

Our toast is white and our ale is brown,

Our bowl is made of white maple tree,

With the wassailing bowl, we’ll drink to thee!

Wassailing although still practiced in some parts has been replaced today by Christmas caroling.

When it comes to traditional Christmas Beverages nothing says Christmas like eggnog.

EGGNOG: 

A rich sweetened dairy based beverage. Traditionally made with: milk, cream, sugar, whipped egg whites, and egg yolks. In some cases, brandy or rum are added to the drink.

Posset, a hot milk drink that was curdled with wine or ale. Spices were added for flavour. Also used as a cold and flu remedy in the Middle Ages. Monks were known to drink a posset with eggs and figs.
